Lent 2025
Our faith teaches us that God meets us in nuance, in complexity, in the rainbow spectrum of human experience. This Lent, we invite you to embrace the tensions, to engage the questions, and to trust that God is at work. There are many ways to enter this sacred time. Here are some things we're doing at St. Matthews...
1. Lectio Divina
Mondays 5:30 - 6 PM (March 10, 17, 24 and 31) Lectio Divina on Zoom. Join us for a peaceful, 30-minute practice of Lectio Divina, a contemplative way of reading scripture that invites us to slow down, listen deeply, and open our hearts to God’s presence—an enriching practice hosted by Libby. Meeting ID: 874 1468 6917 Passcode: 354469
2. Devotional
Pick up a Sanctified Art Devotional in the narthex and read through the scriptures, art, and poetry each week. Or you can use this online version. Or you can read it electronically HERE.
More online devotionals include:
+ There in God's Garden - Luther Seminary Devotional
+ Daily Lenten Guide-Everything Happens by Kate Bowler (link to register)
+ Center for Action and Contemplation (daily meditations all year long)
3. Fasting
You can give up something (fast) and redirect your time, resources or attention to spend with God or serve others. Talk to Mark Bedsaul if you are looking for inspiration this year. He is planning on giving something up.
4. Service
Put Your Faith in Motion—Literally! Pastor Rachel is running the trails for a cause. Every day, she’ll be on the move, donating $7 per mile to Ubumwe Women which empowers & equips single mothers who are immigrants and refugees. She’s hoping not to do this alone—you’re invited to join the movement! Walk, run, or create your own movement challenge, pledge per mile, or make a one-time donation. Every step, every gift, & every prayer of support makes a difference.
5. Words
Write a prayer, share a poem, breath prayer or quote that speaks to God meeting you and others in the midst of extremes, Pastor Kacey will be posting daily on Facebook/Instagram/BlueSky as part of her spiritual discipline to highlighting God’s presence in the public square.
6. Fellowship
